Training for
General Practitioners
Flight Medicine Systems provides
a number of specific and unique training opportunities for general
practitioners. We offer programs looking at improved communication
skills and error prevention, all based on the approach the aviation
industry has taken over the years to reduce the prevalence of
adverse events. These workshops are conducted on a regular basis
and according to demand. We also offer an on-line training option,
where GPs can learn about medical guidelines for air travel.
All of our training is approved
by the RACGP as acceptable continuing medical education for GPs,
and attracts QA&CPD points.

These workshops
are designed to help GPs and their clinic staff improve communication
skills and minimise human errors. In these workshops we examine
the approach the aviation industry has taken to improve the performance
of the human operators in order to reduce the likelihood of an
accident or incident. Participants will examine actual accidents
and incidents (medical and aviation) in order to identify the
types of errors involved, and then will examine the strategies
and tools that can be adopted by medical centres to minimise
similar errors occurring in the medical environment. The workshops
can be supplemented by hands-on time spent in a full-motion flight
simulator. |

This training
is designed to help GPs understand the medical and physiological
demands of modern air travel, so that they can best advise their
patients prior to any planned flights. Current international
guidelines are considered, as well as an overview of the nature
of the aircraft cabin environment. Participants will examine
a number of case studies and complete an assessment task.
